We are a small enthusiastic team that supports several fundraising events during the year.
Door-to-door collections, coffee mornings, concerts and open garden events are all part of the mix, as well as talks.
Our branch covers a large area in the middle of Somerset about 30 miles from the sea and we work hard to support our lifesaving volunteers and the RNLI.
We’d love to have some more volunteers so if you live in and around the Somerton and Langport area and have ideas for new events or would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
The RNLI relies on public donations & legacies; it is not government funded.
On average 22 people are saved every day.
3,478 rescue craft launches between January & June 2014: 37% of these in darkness.
86% of people drowned round th UK coastline are male (more than cycling accidents)
On one evening in August 2014 at Polzeath, North Cornwall the lifeguard team rescued 32 people in 90 minutes.
Our new all weather lifeboat centre in Poole enables us to build our own lifeboats. This saves RNLI £3 Million EACH YEAR
