Some of you may remember the publication called Somerton, Ilchester & Langport in old photographs, but that was published in 1993. Now, nearly 20 years later, it's high time we took another look at our surroundings.
Langport & District History Society are compiling a book of old and new photographs, to be called Langport & Huish Episcopi through time. It will be published by Amberley Publishing of Stroud in 2013.
Others in the same series in the local area are: Chard & its villages through time, Glastonbury through time, Somerset at war through time, Wellington through time, Wells through time, and Yeovil through time.
The book will include 90 old photographs and 90 new photographs taken of the same place or subject, together with a paragraph of text for each one describing what they are.
We've been collecting and copying old photographs for about 18 months, so we have a number to choose from. However, we'd like to use photographs that have not been used before. So we're appealing for people to turn out their attics to find hidden gems of interesting scenes taken in and around Langport and Huish Episcopi.
The photo could be of your house, your school, or your business. It could be a street view or a country scene, or a local event, with or without people in them. Then we have to take a new photograph from the same angle, to show what the scene looks like now.
If you have any old photographs of local interest that might be suitable for this book, please get in touch with Janet Seaton, Chair of the Langport & District History Society, by email on email@example.com or by phone on 259310.
