Recent years have seen a welcome continuing growth within the parish.
During the past few years the population has increased to nearly two thousand residents. In a response to this, as well as several small local housing projects, we have seen the creation of two significant developments, one at Bartlett's Elm the other at the former Kelways site. Both of these remain ongoing and are required to include a percentage of social and affordable housing and proposed business starter units.
Within the parish we are fortunate to have educational establishments that cater for children from six months to eighteen years of age, the range having been extended in either direction relatively recently. The Levels Children's Centre, located adjacent to the well-established Huish Episcopi Primary School, opened in a purpose built building that caters for children from to six months to five years. The latest development has seen the creation of a sixth form, Huish Sixth, within Huish Episcopi Academy.
Huish Episcopi's Westover Trading Estate continues to thrive with new enterprises opening up and further imaginative proposals in planning. The Langport and River Parrett Visitor Centre plays an important role in promoting local tourism to the benefit of Langport Town, Huish Episcopi and the local area.
Towards the other end of Huish Episcopi there is a field owned by the Parish designated for allotments. Up until relatively recent times there was little to no demand for allotments so it was used as farmland. Allotments are now proving increasingly popular. In recognition of this, the Parish Council has recently undertaken the development of a section of this field to now provide twenty-four allotments. Depending upon the level of demand further allotments could be provided.
Whilst Huish Episcopi is located in the heart of Somerset it is none the less easily accessed from the major road network. It is also well placed being basically equidistant from the County Town of Taunton and the important towns of Yeovil and Bridgwater. The roundabout situated at the junction of A372 and B3153, completed in 2011, has been designed to ensure a safer and more efficient junction between two of the busier roads in the Parish.
Huish Episcopi can look forward to a future in which the advantages of country living can be enjoyed without having to forgo the many aspects of modern living.
