Traditional Free Range Poultry
For well over half a century Cracknell’s Farm have been rearing poultry in a natural and traditional way. All our birds are free-range and additive-free. Chicken, ducks and geese come onto the farm as day-old chicks and remain on the farm throughout their lives. They are processed on a weekly basis by Jeff and a small team of workers, before being delivered to local butchers, farm shops, or sold from our door.
At any one time there are approximately 2,000 chickens roaming 9 acres of pasture, along with a couple hundred ducks and a flock of sheep. Goslings arrive in late Spring and are available seasonally - they are a real treat. We have been told by many people that our poultry really does taste better than any other.
The policies and ethics at Cracknell’s Farm have remained unchanged since the 1950s: we aim to make an honest living in a sustainable, animal-friendly way. We source things from as nearby as possible, use local labour, and sell a good product at a price which is fair to both the producer and the customer. We have never wanted to build an empire, but have aspired instead to earn a reasonable living in an honourable way.
We are pleased to be able to supply a product we are proud to put our name to. It is advisable to ring before visiting the farm as Jeff may be working away from the farm buildings, and can be tricky to find!
